Asking for Help

Time to call a tow truck?

Hope you’ve never heard the sound of puh-dump-puh-dump-puh-dump while driving. If not, it’s the proverbial flat tire. And you have two choices. Change it yourself, or call AAA (Don’t let it lapse. That’s when you run over a nail.)

Of course, these days most kids aren’t required to change a tire to graduate from Drivers Ed. So to them the solution is non-negotiable. Call for help. Yup. The life of a millennial.

But for those of us baby boomers who were taught to fix broken things, mend stuff with holes, and milk our own cows (not really), we are sometimes mentally and emotionally challenged by saving money vs seeking help.

Ahhhh….. lesson learned last month: Don’t waste time by trying to save money. When the goal is to get back on the road, or even get your car started, call the expert. Number one, you can’t buy back time, and secondly, doing it yourself often costs you in the form of stress, dollars, and lotsa hours, days, weeks, and even years.

Sometimes we know who to call when we need advice, a kickstart, or expertise, and sometimes we have to search for that person. Over the past few months I’ve been lucky enough, and finally smart enough, to find such people to kickstart and advise me.

After spinning my wheels for two years trying to develop a blog website by googling and you-tubing, as well as months of research, I finally accessed a few good brain cells and called a tow truck. I turned to a reputable site online called Upwork.com for freelancers who are anxious to help. This is where I found Greg Barbosa, my hero on a screen, who in several short hours got my car started and is teaching me to change the oil in the garage. Yes, miracles can happen, and life can change for you if you seek help.

Greg is everything good wrapped up in a young, knowledgeable, personable, guy in FL who has the patience of a saint when it comes to teaching a 60-year-old how to set up and use a website. And he’s funny too, which in this technical world is a bonus. And get this ~ you can be in your jammies to work with him (please wear a bathrobe), because he’ll set you up on your computer so he can see your screen and take you step-by-step through the process. He’s kindly given me the link to contact him, and would be happy to hear from you if you need help with a website (his link soon to come…).

And then there’s another tow truck named Regan Walsh ~ a young gorgeous mother and wife, who has taken huge risks, faced lots of tough stuff (by choice), and has fallen in love with her UNcomfort zone. She currently inspires, teaches, and advises folks of all ages to live their best lives both personally and in business. I kinda ‘tripped’ over her through my daughter and son-in-law in Columbus OH, and was introduced to her business (reganwalsh.com), as well as having the pleasure of attending one of her seminars. Don’t miss out on what she has to offer. She’s not nearly as long winded as me, and is a whole lot smarter.

Last, but no doubt not least, is a tow truck right in my own garage. If the truck you need is one who will inspire you to think waaay out of the box, break some rules, develop your talents to make money, encourage you to put the key in the ignition, and set aside all fear, then check out her business (hennesseyinthehome.com). Lacey may not have the step by step manual on paper, but is young and totally fearless (definitely didn’t get the DNA from her mother), and can be a great example of leaving the corporate world and finding the guts to ‘take the next best step’ (great phrase Regan! click here )

Some folks would have a problem calling a tow truck 3 times in several months, but I’ve finally learned finding help is the quickest, easiest, cheapest, and most efficient way to start your car and take the next journey. I highly recommend it. There are less candles in front of us 60-year-olds than behind us.

So, Fall in love with your UNcomfort zone. I’m here to help ~ Carol
